Wanderlust and Lipstick Newsletter - May 2008
Hello Wanderluster!
I couldn’t have anticipated the spectacular journey that I and 12 others experienced in Bhutan. I’m now blogging about the trip on my Wanderlust and Lipstick site as well as the Seattle PI site. Subscribe to both blogs via RSS or email to stay updated on all my travels, tips and information.
For a visual journey, visit the WanderGallery and enjoy my photos from Bhutan and Bangkok as well as images from other Wanderlusters.
What’s next? I leave for LA at the end of May for the Book Expo and then head north to the Bay Area for a series of workshops at REI. Please attend and bring a friend to one of these events in early June. Be sure to introduce yourself as a Wanderluster!

Can you beat Jamie’s record to win a subscription from travelgirl Magazine?
Jamie forwarded the Wanderlust and Lipstick newsletter to 15 Wanderlusters last month to become the winner of a subscription to travelgirl Magazine. You can, too!
Simply forward this email to all your travel loving friends. The person who forwards this to the most people in May will win a subscription. How easy is that?! (Please note that you must use the link here in order for me to track the forwards.)
Not only will sharing the love give you a chance to win, but you’ll be doing your friends a favor by letting them in on the hip tips, information and fun in each Wanderlust and Lipstick newsletter!
travelgirl Magazine includes lifestyle trends and journeys for today’s traveler - just what a true Wanderluster needs!
(While the contest is open to North America residents only, all forwards are appreciated.)

On the Bookshelf
Smile When You’re Lying by Chuck Thompson
Completely irreverent and snarky, this series of tales from travel writer, Chuck Thompson, reveals the seedier side of travel and writing. Just when I was ready to put the book down because of some insult or sexist remark he made, I’d read on for another paragraph and then be laughing out loud. Not my usual type of travel stories but I loved it anyway!
In the iPod
What’s Happening in Pernambuco by Various Brazilian Artists
Pernambuco is a state in the northeast corner of Brazil. Overshadowed by Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, the region gets little attention, particularly when it comes to music. Sexy, passionate and beautiful, this CD pulls together some of the best, yet unknown artists, and indeed answers the question, What’s Happening in Pernambuco? See more of my review including video of interviews with the artists.
In the DVD Player
Travelers and Magicians with Tsewang Dandup
Having just returned from Bhutan, I couldn’t resist revisiting this story about the clash between the modern and traditional worlds. Nowhere is this more evident than in fast-changing Bhutan, where tradition is the norm and people are rooted in their community and religion. Put away the popcorn: filmed in Bhutan, there’s plenty of eye candy to consume.
WanderGear Review
Ever been disgusted by the blanket that the airlines provide? I’m not a germaphobe, but I can’t imagine using one of these rarely-washed, multi-used “perks” from the airline. Not since I got the Coolmax Travel Blanket from Cocoon. This lightweight knit blanket is large enough to cover most people from shoulder to toes and is soft and warm. It’s as comfortable as curling up at home! Read more…

Traveling with Children
Thanks to all of you moms who responded to my request for stories about traveling with your children.
Leslie and Michelle have been busy writing Wanderlust and Lipstick: For Women Traveling with Children and are just about to enter the interview phase. If you haven’t yet been contacted for an interview, hang tight, someone will be in touch soon.
The book is going to be an awesome addition to the Wanderlust and Lipstick series and will hopefully inspire you gals to travel now that you have kids!

For Women Traveling to India is the next book in the Wanderlust and Lipstick series and is due out this summer.
At last, women will have their very own guide addressing the joys and difficulties of traveling in India.
