Wanderlust and Lipstick Newsletter - June 2008
Hello Wanderluster!
I’ve been in California this week. First stop was LA where I attended the Book Expo of America. I showed off an early edition of the India book to a hugely favorable response. YEAH! I’m now in the Bay Area, giving workshops at 3 REIs. If you’re in the ‘hood, please stop in tonight in Saratoga and let me know you’re a Wanderluster.
BHUTAN TOUR NEWS! I’ll be leading another small group to Bhutan in April ‘09. This will be a women-only tour and will include some very special opportunities to meet the beautiful Bhutanese people. We’ll take a cooking class, visit a nunnery and donate books to school children. If you missed your chance to join our April ‘08 trip (it sold out within months), here’s your chance to see one of the world’s emerging travel destinations. See more details.
For a visual journey of Bhutan, visit my WanderGallery.

WanderTip
With airlines announcing that they are charging for checked baggage (oy vay), consider taking only carry-on luggage with you on that next trip. Several companies manufacture combination roll-aboard/backpacks which are very convenient for backpackers and leisure travelers!

You just finished reading Eat, Pray, Love and now you’re dying to get to India, right? You might have noticed that there are no comprehensive resources geared specifically for women traveling to the subcontinent. But fear not. For Women Traveling to India is the next book in the Wanderlust and Lipstick series and is due out this summer.
At last, women will have their very own guide addressing the joys and difficulties of traveling in India.

Wander Recommendations
On the Bookshelf
Patients Beyond Borders by Josef Woodman
Having just met this author at the Book Expo, I have to give mention to what I believe is an extremely important topic: medical tourism. This book (as well as his forthcoming titles to specific regions and for specific conditions) is a comprehensive guide to seeking and receiving treatment abroad for a vast array of medical conditions.
In the iPod
Euro Groove (Putumayo) from Various Artists
Lazy days of summer deserve some chillin’ out grooves. Grab your drink of choice, ready the lounge chair on your deck and pop Putumayo’s Euro Groove in your CD player. Artists on this disc include Chumbawamba (remember them?) and the German group DelaDap, with one of the best tunes in this collection.
WanderGear Review
Oh, how I wish I had this when I was in India this past January. It was either my camera or memory card that went wonky when I was in Darjeeling and I lost my first week of photos, including Varanasi! The Digital Foci Photo Safe is basically an external hard drive that allows you to insert your memory card and upload your photos, quickly and easily. Back up your images daily and you’ll (I mean, I’ll) never lose another image again! Read more…

Traveling with Children
Thanks to all of you moms who responded to my request for stories about traveling with your children.
Leslie and Michelle have been busy writing Wanderlust and Lipstick: Traveling with Children and are interviewing women now. If you haven’t yet been contacted for an interview, hang tight, someone will be in touch soon.
The book is going to be an awesome addition to the Wanderlust and Lipstick series and will hopefully inspire you gals to travel now that you have kids!
