wanderlust and lipstick Newsletter - September, 2006

Hi Traveler,

Beth Whitman here. Welcome to “For Women Traveling Solo”, the newsletter for savvy women travelers. As a recipient of this inaugural issue, you probably know me in one way or another. Because of our friendship, I’m looking to you for help in spreading the word about this monthly newsletter and my newly launched online travel magazine, www.forwomentravelingsolo.com.

(Men, read on, there’s stuff for you here, too.)

Through my website, I plan to offer an array of travel information and build the largest community of women travelers on the web. For Women Traveling Solo is a site where you can share info and find travel partners through the forums, read my travel blog for women, and keep up with product recommendations on new and trendy products. Both the blog and product recommendations will be updated regularly, so check back often.

Each newsletter will contain recommendations for travel books, world music, and perhaps a word or two of wisdom from the road.

Book Recommendation
The House on Dream Street by Dana Sachs. Whether you’ve traveled to Vietnam or not, this is a poetic and romantic peek into the life of an expat living in Hanoi. Her descriptions of the city are dead-on and her experiences (love affairs and all) are written in a style that we can easily identify with.

World Music
Darek Mazzone is an adventurer of another kind. His radio program, Wo’ Pop, airs every Tuesday night on KEXP in Seattle from 6-9pm. The KEXP website is updated constantly with streams of all programming as well as playlists. You can check out two week’s worth of Darek’s World Music show anytime. He is knowledgeable and his interests and music range from Cape Verde to Bulgeria.

My Book and Blog
In case you’re wondering, my book “Wanderlust and Lipstick; the Essential Guide for Women Traveling Solo” is due out this fall. Email me at beth at forwomentravelingsolo dot com for info on pre-ordering an autographed copy. For those of you who couldn’t previously reach my blog at the Seattle PI, try this: (http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/travel)

Workshops
I have two workshops coming up For Women Traveling Solo. These 2.5 hour classes are for the inexperienced and seasoned traveler alike. For more info on these Seattle-area classes, check out the Workshops page on my site.

Finally - Your Help
If you like the website and newsletter or would simply like to support my efforts, please forward this on to all of your women friends who might be interested in travel, sharing their stories through my Travel Tales page, or staying updated on travel issues pertinent to women. It’s easy; tell a few friends, and they’ll tell a few friends, and so on until we’ve created a kick-ass community of women travelers.

New Subscribers
If this email was forwarded to you, subscribe by emailing newsletter at forwomentravelingsolo dot com or use the easy submit form on my home page.

Til next month,

Happy Travels!

Beth
