This month we’re giving away a pair of Kuhl Vala Roll Up Pants and a Destini Hoody. Now that I’ve had a few weeks to test these out I wanted to add a review and tell you why you should be excited that you might win this set for yourself.
First, let me just make clear that despite the fact that I get to test out and review a wide range of travel clothes, I’m not a clothes horse. As a matter of fact, a friend (a close friend, no less) told me, “I want to put you on that show, What Not to Wear.”
The truth is that I spend my money on travel and while I like to be comfortable when I travel, I don’t pour a lot of cash into what I wear (sorry close friend). But I made an exception a couple of years ago when I bought a pair of Kuhl pants that cost me more than $100 at REI. That was a big deal for me. But I love those pants and bring them on most of my trips. So I was already a fan of Kuhl when they asked me to review these.
Kuhl Vala Roll Up Pants
The Kuhl Vala Roll Up Pants have some features that I like better the pants I purchased a couple of years ago. First, the Vala’s have snaps on the back pockets. Not that I often place items in my back pocket, but I do like to know that when I do, the item is safer than in an open pocket. Plus the snaps and pocket flap are well-designed, giving the back of the pants a nice finishing touch.
In the front left pocket, there’s a small zippered inset pocket. It’s small but large enough for a house key, some change or a some small bills. There’s also a large side pocket, large enough for a passport. Though that isn’t the safest place for it, you get the idea in terms of the size.
The best feature on the Vala’s are that the bottoms roll up and snap in place so you’ve got a pair of instant capris. I love this feature for warm weather travel. Unlike other pairs of convertible pants where you have to zip off the bottoms, with these you don’t have to carry around that extra material if you’ve unzipped them after you’ve left your hotel.
The material is a 4-way stretch making them great for long bus or train rides because you can move around easily in them. They’re also lightweight – perfect for trips to warm weather climes.
What I Love
- Internal drawstring allows you to tighten the waist should you actually lose weight on your journey 🙂
- The light stretchable fabric is so very comfortable
- I love them more than the original ones I bought because of some of the added features I noted above and am delighted to have two pairs to swap between during one journey
The Kuhl Vala Roll Up Pants are $79 and available in three colors: Khaki, Hazel and Charcoal.
Destini Hoody
While not strictly a travel piece, there’s no reason why this wouldn’t be a comfortable top to wear during your travels but it’s definitely great for wearing at home as well.
The Kuhl Destini Hoody is a lightweight shirt – quite thin, actually. It’s great for layering over or under something else or simply on its on.
I love the burnout look (this always reminds me of India-inspired clothes) and it’s got my favorite – thumb loops in the sleeves.
This is a long shirt. Not a bad thing but it did surprise me just how long it runs. The nice thing is that there are pull strings on the side so you can cinch it up a bit. I learned quickly that the single knots I was tying would easily unravel and hang down so started double knotting them and they are fine.
The Kuhl Destini Hoody is $65 and available in four colors: Ember, Ash, Dew and Twilight.
Travel Well,
Beth
