Have you seen the (Day)light? It’s the new Daylight lumbar pack from Mountainsmith.
At first, I thought this would be too big for me to carry around during my travels. But I’ve become convinced that anyone doing at least a couple of hikes during a trip, will find this to be an excellent companion.
The single most important feature for me is the internal pocket into which you can stuff the entire bag (see photo below) and then pack it into your larger luggage.
But this isn’t the only reason why the Daylight is so great for hikers. Its deep pocket has plenty of space for enough gear, food and drink for a full day out on the trail – like trekking in Bhutan!
Two side mesh pockets can each hold a water bottle and the zippered front panel includes a flap over the zipper to prevent rain or other liquids from leaking in.
The interior pocket is ideal for your keys and other small items you’d want to get to easily (and the pocket’s yellow, so it’s easy to see). I admit that it did take me a little time to figure out just how to stuff the bag into that same pocket, but it does work, trust me!
Depending on how much you’re carrying, a lumbar pack can be far more comfortable than using a full-on backpack since there’s no weight on your shoulders dragging you down. Ultimately, it makes it a bit easier to move on a trail (plus it forces you to consolidate and NOT carry so much!).
Travel Well,
Beth
