WanderGear Wednesday: Anywhere Comfort
When I request or accept products to test out, I usually make certain that it’s something I’m going to use over the long term.
Having said that, I received an unsolicited request from the folks at Anywhere Comfort to try out their product line and though I wasn’t totally sold on the fact that I’d make use of these, I agreed to let these folks send along some samples.
Though there might be a place for these items in someone’s life, I’m not convinced they are travel products.
Anywhere Comfort Products are made from memory foam and are meant to provide you with a more comfortable seated position, whether at your desk or on a plane, train or bus.
The items I tested out include:
- Neck Comfort
- Arm Comfort
- Back Comfort
In addition, they also have a micro fleece blanket, which is probably the only item that I would say is truly geared for travelers.
All 3 items I tested feature Velcro straps, making it easy to adjust exactly where you’d like to place them. I replaced my back support on my desk chair with the Anywhere Comfort back rest for just this reason. The one I was using previously kept falling off the chair every time I got up. The Anywhere Comfort back support comes with 2 separate foam strips, which allows me to adjust their height around my chair and then easily secure them using the Velcro straps.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that I could not find any use for either the Arm or Neck Comfort.
As for the arm rests, perhaps I’m just already comfortable with the way I have my chair and laptop set up, but I find the
these to be clunky and to get in the way of me trying to type. They are made of memory foam and do have adjustable straps, meaning that a person could adjust them for their comfort, but I never could get it right. If you’ve got a medical condition (carpel tunnel?) that might require a more comfortable position at your laptop, perhaps these would do the trick. But I could not imagine wearing these in my office every day. The gal in the top photo is shown using them on a plane…
The Neck Comfort, in theory, should wrap around the back of your chair, let’s say on a plane or bus, so you have a way to rest your head. Because it’s made of memory foam, there’s a bit of give here. But it seems like just a thick pad that would push your head forward. In theory, this could be worn as a collar to hold your head up while sleeping, but, honestly, it’s quite suffocating, like wearing a neck brace.
The company’s website (and the pitch that I was given when I was requested to test these out) is that these are great for traveling because, as the site says “it rolls up to a fraction” of the original size. I guess if by “fraction” you mean 80%, then yeah, I’d agree.
My suggestion? Stick with the Anywhere Comfort back support and if you have issues with keeping your arms comfortable while you’re at your desk, maybe consider the arm rest. If you want neck support while you’re traveling, use a travel pillow like the Cocoon U-shaped pillow.
All in all, I don’t think these are worth the space they’d take up in your luggage.
