Photo of the Day: Pushkar Camel Fair

One of the most fantastic things we did during our October tour through Northern India, was to take a camel ride at sunrise. It was one of the highlights of all my journeys to the subcontinent.

Despite looking a bit awkward – these animals really are quite cute. This was taken at the Pushkar Camel Fair – an annual event in Rajasthan where camel traders come to buy and sell.

These were our guides taking a little break after we stopped in the dunes and waited for the sun to come up.

We doubled up on the camels and rode for about an hour+ total. You feel like like you’re on top of the world on these animals. I loved it so much that I would take a week-long camel trek in a moment’s notice.

Camels rock! I could photograph them and hang out with them all day. Llamas too. They can get a little snippy, but are so cool to watch.
It’s like my personal dream realized!
We saw wild camels roaming around in Libya. It was like seeing a mirage or something, just unreal. Great photos!
This is on my list of things I must do! I would love to see my children’s fascinated looks when they stand with the camels!
It really IS unreal to see these animals in their own environment. I had no idea I would be in such awe.
SOOOO very cool. gorgeou photos!!
Sounds like a great adventure…and you’re right, these animals are pretty cute
I think my neighbour was there at the same time and she told me you can buy practically anything there that’s camel related.
Love your blog! We are always on the look out for amazing things to do, amazing places to stay etc etc. If you would like to exchange amazing links, ideas, articles, news etc I would love to chat.
