One of the biggest challenges for me when I travel is staying fit. At home, I visit the gym 3-4 times a week and include both a cardio and a light weightlifting program in order to stay (somewhat) toned.
While traveling, I can usually squeeze in enough walks to feel OK but it’s difficult to stay toned, particularly on an extended trip.
While in Bangkok and Bhutan over the last 3 weeks, I took along an exercise kit that helped me stay on track with my workout regimen.
The Fit Traveler, from The Fitness Boutique, is a simple but effective way for you to carry your workout with you. The kit includes an exercise band and a booklet with suggested exercises for upper and lower body strengthening as well as abdominal exercises. In addition, the booklet includes a Workout Log to track your progress and Diet Tips.
It’s really easy to avoid working out when you’re on the road but I found the biggest benefit of having The Fit Traveler sitting on my bedside table each day was that I was motivated to put it into action. Keeping track of my progress, I increased the number of reps I did every day which ultimately motivated me even more.
I then thought twice before accepting that second helping of dessert (“because I was on vacation”) since I knew I’d have a harder time working it off the next morning!
In order to limit what I was carrying, I admit to having ripped out the pages of the suggested exercises and paper clipping them together. While the booklet IS rather small, it allowed me to avoid at least a few extra ounces in my one bag. I then just popped the rubber exercise band in a sandwich bag and kept them together in my luggage for easy retrieval.
Also from The Fitness Boutique are: The Fit Senior and (coming soon) The Fit Maternity and The Fit Disability.

Beth

That looks very useful! Although I’d think that you could duplicate it pretty easily with a workout log of your own and perhaps a better exercise band. Have you considered bodylastics? I’ve heard good things about it so keep considering buying it, but honestly their website’s so infomercialesque that I can’t bring myself to give them my credit card number. I miss weight-lifting when I can’t do it though, so I keep considering it.

What a great product. I’m great when I’m in one place, but once I’m on the road I never really exercise and I hate that!

I neglected to mention that the Fit Traveler’s MSRP is under $18. I noticed that Bodylastics is almost $50 PLUS it looks a lot heavier to carry around than the Fit Traveler.
