Photo of the Day: Varanasi Saris

Varanasi Saris

I was working on a short video (coming soon…) on Varanasi and in doing so I was looking for some photos of the area. I came across this one and thought it would be the perfect start for 2009 for DeliciousBaby’s Photo Friday.

This photo is of saris that are being left out to dry along the ghats of the Ganges River in Varanasi, India. In the early morning hours, you can walk along the river’s edge to see laundry being done in the polluted but very sacred waters of Mother Ganga. They are then draped along the steep steps that lead up to cafes, guest houses and homes. Not all the laundry is this beautiful :-)

Travel Well!
