Photo of the Day: Reclining Buddha
Next month I’m headed back to Bangkok on my way to Bhutan. In between munching on amazing street food, I will definitely be stopping by the immense temple complex at Wat Pho to see the reclining Buddha.
This gold-plated Buddha is about 150 feet long and 45 feet high and is symbolic of the Buddha passing into Nirvana.

Great shot, he looks so relaxed! All that gold is just amazing too.
Wow, what an incredible photo. His expression is definitely one of utter contentment. Bhutan is incredible – we were there in 2001 – can’t wait to read out your adventures there.
I just posted about wanting to eat Thai street food and visit this beautiful Buddha. I hope you enjoy doing both!
What a great angle! We’ve visited the reclining Buddha too – but I’m sure our picture doesn’t look like yours.
Gorgeous shot!
Relaxing after a good meal, perhaps? He does look amazingly mellow.
I always love watching folks like Bordain sampling the street food when they travel. They won’t even allow a hot dog vendor to have a cart on the streets during the summer in my town (there was a biiiiiiig discussion about that a couple of years ago–restaurants didn’t want the competition I guess).
Wait a minute…BACK to Bhutan?! Wow. Bhutan is in my Top 3 “dream destinations.” How wonderful you get to make a return trip!
Very good shot! Bhutan is definitely one of the places I’m dying to visit again. So nice of you to be going there again!
Just wondering Beth, what other countries will you be traveling to on this planned trip to Bhutan?
@ Nik – I’ll be stopping in Bangkok for a few days on the front and and back end of the Bhutan trip. I’d love to stay longer and travel around SE Asia, but I don’t have the time on this trip, unfortunately!
Nice use of the Rule of Thirds from a hard position.
We are going to Thailand in July – This photo inspired us more!
Thanx!
