Kivas, like the one pictured above, are rooms used for religious ceremonies at Native American pueblos in the Southwest and are often found underground.
I visited this one a few years ago outside of Santa Fe. The sun was magically streaming through on this particular late afternoon.

I was curious if the Kiva Loans org took its name from this, but one explanation I found on the Web said “kiva” was a Swahili word for “unity”.
