Photo of the Day: Bhutan Architecture
I never tire of looking at the iconic architecture in Bhutan. Buildings have outer walls that are white, but the windows, rooftops and railings are intricately detailed with paintings. Sometimes you’ll see tiny repetitive geometric designs stretched foot after foot on the building. Others paintings are beautiful flowers. Both are equally eye catching.
This is actually the side doorway leading into the monastery above.
This is the detail of an archway leading into an elementary school. Would you have loved to attend school in a building with such an inviting entrance?

Beautiful building!
Hi,
I would have loved to go to school there, maybe I would have had more respect for it. I went to school that was designed for a prison, literally!
Gorgeous shots!

Lovely shots!
Buildings in Asia are so different than what we’re used to. Old stuff here in the states is interesting, in Europe it brings visions of medieval fantasies, but in Asia it is so different that you just want to gaze at it and explore.
Saddly most of our schools (even the old ones) are just boring.
that is just so beautiful, esp the colors. thanks for sharing!
Stunning. I love all of the details and the colors.
I would love to teach at a school with that entrance. These are so beautiful.
Beth, I know very little about Bhutan so I am going to read through your other posts to learn more. Thanks for the gorgeous shots.
I love taking photos of architectural details. These are especially nice!
