Nothing But Nets Fighting Malaria
In an article by Rick Reilly in Sports Illustrated, he challenged his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of anti-malaria bed nets for Africa, where a child dies every 30 seconds from Malaria. Every 30 seconds!
The response was phenomenal, raising more than 1 million dollars for Nothing But Nets. Along with the UN Foundation and other partner organizations, NBN is continuing to raise funds to purchase bed nets that contain insecticide woven into the fabric.
It’s believe that these bed nets, which last for about four years, can reduce the overall transmission of malaria by 50 percent. That’s HUGE. And, with the cost of a bed net at $10, it is out of the reach of most people at risk of malaria in Africa.
Just think, for the price of a couple of Starbucks, you could save a life…
Happy Travels!

I’ve traveled extensively in Africa and I know this to be very true. Thanks so much, Beth, for calling this to our attention. But where, specifically, can we send the money? I’m sure this is an ongoing problem. Meg
There’s a link on their website where you can donate money. It’s the “Buy a Net” link on the right hand side. I’m sure they’ll appreciate your support!
Thanks for the information, Beth. Will do. Meg
