New Travel Restrictions

What’s a girl to do? Seriously.

With the new travel restrictions in place, and no date set for the lifting of the bans, how do you deal with not being able to carry your lotions, potions, and makeup in your carry on?

Number one, be patient. We’re all inconvenienced and in the same, uh, boat. And two, log on to the Transportation Security Administration website before departing so you know exactly what the latest restrictions are. For the foreseeable future at least, policies will most likely change often.

Here’s a partial list of what you can and can’t carry on to your flight. If you have items that are on the restricted list, be sure to toss them into your checked luggage, throw them out, or leave them at home.

Restricted:

* aerosol sprays of any kind
* suntan lotion, ointments, hand lotion
* lip glosses or gels
* liquid sanitizers
* nail polish
* toothpaste
* mascara
* all beverages (sorry Starbucks)
* yogurt

Permitted:

* 4 ounces of liquid medications
* low blood sugar treatments including glucose gel
* lipstick
* baby food

And, as of today, you MUST remove your shoes while walking through security (though I thought this was already a MUST by the way the security folks treated me and my shoes on all flights since 9/11).

If you end up throwing out items prior to boarding, either replenish them at your destination’s airport or stop at a local pharmacy. All in all, these are minor hassles in the big scheme of things.

Happy Travels!
